Authorship Policy

IJAREST follows the authorship criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), adapted for engineering and technology disciplines. Authorship carries significant academic, professional, and legal implications; therefore, it must be assigned responsibly and transparently.

✅ Criteria for Authorship

To qualify as an author, an individual must satisfy ALL of the following criteria:

1
Substantial Contribution
Made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work.
2
Drafting or Revising
Drafted the work or revised it critically for important intellectual content.
3
Final Approval
Approved the final version to be published.
4
Accountability
Agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
❌ Non-Author Contributions (Acknowledgements)

Contributors who do not meet all four authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. Their contributions should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section. Examples include:

  • Technical writing or language editing assistance
  • Data collection without conceptual contribution
  • Laboratory assistance or equipment provision
  • Funding acquisition only (without intellectual contribution)
  • General supervision of a research group
⚠ Unacceptable Authorship Practices
Ghost Authorship
Including an author who made no substantial contribution to the work.
Gift Authorship
Adding individuals (e.g., supervisors, heads of department) based on status rather than contribution.
Coercive Authorship
Pressuring others to add authors who did not contribute.
Omitting Contributors
Excluding individuals who made substantial contributions from the author list.
🔄 Changes to Authorship

Any changes to the author list (addition, removal, or reordering of authors) after manuscript submission require the written consent of all co-authors and must be requested by emailing the editor at editor@ijarest.org. Changes to authorship after publication are generally not permitted except to correct a genuine error, which will be handled through a published correction/erratum.
