IJAREST AI Use Policy for Authors
IJAREST acknowledges the growing use of AI-based tools (such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude, etc.) in academic writing and research. While AI tools can assist in language polishing and literature organization, they raise important concerns about authorship, accountability, and research integrity. This policy defines how authors may and may not use AI tools in manuscript preparation.
✅ Permitted Uses of AI Tools
✅ Grammar & Language Editing
Using AI to improve grammar, sentence clarity, spelling, and readability of author-written content.
✅ Translation Assistance
Using AI to help translate content originally written in another language, provided authors verify accuracy.
✅ Literature Search Aid
Using AI to help identify and organize relevant literature for review (authors must verify all references).
✅ Outline & Structure Suggestions
Using AI to suggest a structural outline that the author then writes in full themselves.
✅ Figure & Data Visualization
Using AI tools to create data visualizations or charts from author-owned datasets.
✅ Code & Simulation Aid
Using AI coding assistants (e.g., Copilot) to assist in writing code for simulations or data analysis.
❌ Prohibited Uses of AI Tools
❌ AI-Generated Authorship
AI tools may NOT be listed as authors. Authorship requires human accountability and intellectual contribution.
❌ Full Text Generation
Using AI to write substantial portions of the manuscript (introduction, discussion, conclusion) without meaningful author contribution.
❌ Fabricating References
AI tools must never be used to generate or invent citations. All references must be verified as real, accessible publications.
❌ Data Fabrication
Using AI to generate or hallucinate research data, experimental results, or statistical findings.
❌ Undisclosed AI Use
Using AI in prohibited ways and failing to disclose such use in the manuscript constitutes research misconduct.
❌ Bypassing Peer Review
Using AI to fabricate reviewer responses or to manipulate the peer review process in any way.
📋 Disclosure Requirements
Authors who use AI tools in any part of their manuscript preparation must disclose this in the manuscript. The disclosure should be included in the Acknowledgements section and should describe:
- Which AI tool(s) were used (e.g., ChatGPT-4, Grammarly, etc.)
- For what specific purpose(s) the tool was used
- That the authors take full responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the work
Example Disclosure Statement:
"The authors used [ChatGPT-4, OpenAI] for language editing of the manuscript draft. The AI tool was not used for data analysis, research design, or generating intellectual content. All factual claims, data, and conclusions are the sole responsibility of the authors."
