Abstract

Hand gesture recognition system received great attention in the recent few years because of its
manifoldness applications and the ability to interact with machine efficiently through human computer interaction.
Segmentation process is the first process for recognizing hand gestures. It is the process of dividing the input image
into regions separated by boundaries. It loads image, detects and recognizes static hand poses (i.e., “letters”) and
interprets pose in terms of gestures. The hand object is detected with a contour-based method. The static hand pose set
corresponds to hand signs of Indian Sign language manual alphabet. Finally, by tracking hand poses, the pose is
interpreted in terms of gestures.
