Abstract

Aligarh Muslim University, an institution with ‘Heritage Character’ is losing its historic
identity because of the fast pace of development of modern structures which are nowhere compatible in
architecture and planning with the century old architectural marvels. The paper is an extract of research
which identifies the variables which were there in the buildings and complexes at AMU for more than
hundred years and were suddenly lost with the growth of the institution. Guidelines were developed to
incorporate these variables again to rejuvenate the Heritage Character of Aligarh Muslim University.
