Abstract

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are expected to be an enabling technology for next-generation wireless
systems which provides flexible and high-capacity wireless backhaul over large areas. Routing is a key issue for
transferring packets from source to destination. For this there are numerous multipath routing protocols were
introduced for wireless mesh networks. Every routing protocol has its own advantages and disadvantages. So
effective selection of routing protocol is more important for any network., routing may be of unipath routing and
multipath routing. Among this multipath routing is more efficient than single path routing. Multipath routing allows
the usage of multiple paths for routing between a source-destination pair. The three main elements of multipath
routing are route discovery, traffic allocation, and path maintenance. Path discovery is mainly used for finding
available paths using pre-defined metric. This paper focuses on a selection of these various protocols that are used
in Wireless Mesh Networks and give a discussion on how fuzzy logic is applied for selecting the optimized path.
